The streetscape is considered the area within the public right-of-way that includes sidewalks, landscaping, street furniture, on-street parking, signage, and vehicular travel lanes. As the primary public spaces in urban areas, it is critical that streetscapes work with buildings to create vibrant places where people enjoy walking, shopping, dining and socializing.

SIDEWALKS
Sidewalks should be provided where they are not presently available, and all sidewalks must be well maintained. They should be wide enough to accommodate street trees, outdoor cafes and markets. Pedestrian cross walks should be provided wherever possible and should be clearly distinguished from the street pavement through use of a different pavement color and texture.

LANDSCAPE AND STREET LIGHTING
In a highly traveled area such as 11th Avenue or 12th Avenue, street trees should be installed in "plant wells" with tree grates and properly designed drainage and irrigation systems. In less frequented areas, planting strips or tree wells are appropriate. Street lighting should be more attractive and pedestrian scaled than existing lighting. It is recommended that a style be selected that helps maintain the industrial character of the area.

ON-STREET PARKING
On-street parking should be provided wherever possible. The standard width for space should be 8 ft.
